Singaporean host and deejay Dennis Chew has completed his full-time studies at Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) after three years.

The 51-year-old began his studies in the Chinese Media and Communication diploma program in 2022 while managing his radio career.

On Feb. 11, he posted the news of his academic accomplishment on Instagram and thanked those who supported him throughout his journey.

A journey of lifelong learning

In his post, Chew revealed that he completed his final presentation at 9:30am on the same day.

He expressed gratitude to NP for accepting him into the programme, the lecturers who encouraged him, and his classmates for their support and companionship.

He affectionately referred to his classmates as his “dear babies” and mentioned that they call him "Lao Ba" (father), sharing his fondness for them.

Reflecting on his academic experience, Chew candidly stated:

"Studying has never been easy, and you only truly understand that when you go through it yourself."

He noted that the three years helped him develop self-discipline and acquire skills such as video editing, scriptwriting efficiency, critical thinking and improved communication with younger generations.

Chew also expressed gratitude to the company where he completed his six-month internship, as well as his radio colleagues: Chen Biyu, Marcus Chin and Mark Lee.

He expressed his appreciation to Mediacorp for supporting his academic ambitions while allowing him to continue his career and to his media friends, who filled him with "positive energy".

Lastly, Chew thanked his followers for their support, stating:

“Through these three years, you have stayed by my side, giving me the strength to keep moving forward.”

Since 2022

His decision to pursue tertiary education came after he won the All-Time Favourite Artiste award at the Star Awards in April 2022, where he spoke about his desire to understand himself, his job and today’s youths better.

Chew also shared that many of his industry peers had graduated from NP, further motivating his choice to enrol.

In September 2024, Chew was recognised with the Edusave Certificate of Academic Achievement, an award given to students who rank in the top 25 per cent of their course cohort.
