According to South China Morning Post, the youth stole the jewellery and took it to a jade recycling shop to pawn it off.

For her effort, she got a slightly underwhelming return of S$11.

Police report made

The mother, Wang, quickly made a police report, where the daughter's pilfering was uncovered.

The owner of the shop was reprimanded for quoting such a low price, despite knowing the items were authentic.

According to SCMP, which cited a report by Shanghai Media Group, the mother was flabbergasted at her daughter's actions.

Daughter tells mum she got 60 yuan in return

Wang said her daughter told her she needed money that day because she saw a person with lip studs, thought the person looked good and wanted to get one herself.

When the mother asked her daughter how much she pawned the jewellery for, the teen girl apparently said: "60 yuan (S$11)."

The mother added that her daughter also said: “The lip stud cost about 30 yuan (S$5.50), and they will give me another pair of earrings for 30 yuan (S$5.50), so 60 yuan (S$11) total.”

The items were eventually returned to Wang.

Online commenters slammed the youth's actions and said the girl caused trouble for the police, shop and her mother, and also blamed lax parenting and oversight.
