S'pore police arrest man, 49, for allegedly buying luxury goods worth S$85,000 with stolen & forged credit cards
Multiple credit cards believed to be forged were found in his possession.
The Singapore police have arrested a 49-year-old man for his suspected involvement in credit card fraud.
The police were alerted to multiple reports of suspected credit card fraud on Jan. 23, 2025.
Several local merchants reported that they were alerted by banks that unauthorised transactions had been processed through their businesses, the police said in a Feb. 11 release.
Officers from Tanglin Police Division and Commercial Affairs Department established the identity of the suspect and he was arrested on Feb. 10.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man allegedly bought luxury goods worth S$85,000 by using stolen credit cards’ Europay, Mastercard and Visa (EMV) chips that he had tampered with.
Several items, such as multiple credit cards believed to be forged, three mobile devices, a branded luxury watch and a Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) device were found in his possession and were seized as case exhibits.
Investigations also revealed that he is believed to be involved in other similar cases.
The man will be charged in court on Feb. 12 with the offence of cheating.
The offence carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.
