4 men, aged 32-44, charged over making a scene behind Mustafa Centre near cordoned crime scene

They were charged with committing public nuisance and using insulting or threatening behaviour towards a public servant.

The four men who allegedly taunted and used abusive language against police officers outside a crime scene in the early hours of Sep. 22 were charged today in court.

They were arrested the night before, on Sep. 24.

They were each charged with two offences: one of committing public nuisance and one of using insulting or threatening behaviour towards a public servant under the Protection from Harassment Act.

The four men are Md Dino Marciano Bin Abdul Wahab, 44,  Mohanan V Balakrishnan, 38, Mohamed Eusof Bin Mohamed Yahiya, 32, and Alex Kumar S/O Gnanasekaran, 37.

Balakrishnan allegedly aided by taking a video recording while the other three allegedly taunted a police officer, according to charge sheets.

According to court records, the prosecution stated that there might be more charges, and investigations are ongoing as the investigating officer will also have to retrieve bodycam footage.

The next hearing for the case was scheduled for Oct. 8.

What happened

At about 5:10am, on Sep. 22, officers were preserving a murder crime scene along Sam Leong Road when the four men approached the cordoned-off area and attempted to cross it.

According to a previous press release, the police officers advised the men to proceed through an alternative route.

However, three of the men allegedly decided to taunt and use abusive language against the officers.

After follow-up investigations, officers from the Central Police Division identified and arrested the four men on Sep. 23.

Can face to imprisonment of up to 12 months

Those found using abusive language against a public servant may face an imprisonment term of up to 12 months, a fine of up to S$5,000, or both.

For public nuisance, an offender may be sentenced to up to three months in prison, a fine of up to S$2,000, or both.
