United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced that the next UK general election will take place on July 4.
In the early hours of May 23 (Singapore time), Sunak appeared outside of 10 Downing Street, the UK PM's office, and confirmed that King Charles III had granted the dissolution of parliament.
This brings to an end rampant speculation over how long he would hold onto the office, with many predicting that the only question to be answered at a GE would be how badly beaten Sunak's Conservative Party is going to be.
According to some polls, the opposition Labour party led by Keir Starmer is leading by over 20 points.
