The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) announced on Mar. 12 that a new transfer Passenger Service Charge (PSC) fee will apply to passengers transferring flights at Malaysia airports, including the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), from Jun. 1, 2024.
According to a press release by Mavcom, international passengers transferring flights at KLIA Terminal 1 (KLIA1) will be charged RM42 (S$12), while those transferring at KLIA Terminal 2 (KLIA2) will be charged RM29 (S$8).
This applies to outbound transfer flights departing from Kuala Lumpur to any Asean countries and beyond.
Rates are lower for KLIA2 and other airports, as they predominantly cater to short-haul flights.
Departure fee also
For example, a passenger flying into KLIA Terminal 1 and transferring to another flight to Singapore will need to pay the new transfer fee of RM42 (S$12).
Separately, they will also need to pay the revised departure PSC fees.
Currently, the departure PSC for flights to Asean countries is priced at RM35 (S$10) for both KLIA1 or KLIA2. The departure fees for flights beyond Asean countries is RM73 (S$21).
Following the revision, the departure fee for international travellers flying out of KLIA1, regardless of destination, will be RM73 (S$21). The departure fee for the same for KLIA2 will be RM50 (S$14).
The revised fees will not apply to flight tickets issued before Jun. 1, 2024, even if the date of travel occurs on or after Jun. 1, 2024.
Mavcom said the revised fees are meant to support the aviation sector’s recovery and adaptability in the post-pandemic environment.
