Lukumades, a doughnut brand originating from Melbourne, Australia has made its way to Singapore.
Located in the vicinity of Bugis Street, Lukumades specialises in Greek doughnut balls, which the brand says are crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
What's on the menu
The doughnut balls (from S$12 for 10 pieces), which come generously drizzled in sauce, are available in flavours such as:
- Bueno
- Pistachio
- Tella Classic
- Snickers
- Oreo Balls
- Matcha
- Peanut butter
The bestsellers, according to Lukumades, are the pistachio and bueno.
When Mothership visited at around 6:30pm on a weekday, these flavours were sold out.
They also have gelatos and milkshakes on the menu but they were sold out for the day.
Be prepared to wait
Lukumades is not your typical doughnut chain where the doughnuts are pre-made and displayed on counters.
The doughnuts are fried in batches and are made to order.
Since we came during the peak period, it took around 30 minutes for our order to be ready.
We opted for the Half Half (S$15) option, which allows you to choose two flavours in one box of 10, and got the Original and Twix Fix flavours.
The Original
The Original is coated with cinnamon and honey.
Twix Fix
This one comes with milk chocolate, crushed biscuit and caramel sauce.
The doughnuts are unlike the bready ones that one can typically find at neighbourhood bakeries.
Instead, it's chewier and has an addictive mochi-like bite.
If there's one takeaway from this, it's that you should arrive earlier in the day before the popular items get sold out.
