With polling day right around the corner, presidential candidate Ng Kok Song paid a visit to Clementi 448 Market & Food Centre on the evening of Aug. 29, as part of his final campaign efforts.
"I want to make myself available for the people of Singapore to either see me, shake my hand, or take a photo with me," he said.
And his appearance induced a crowd to form to pose for photos with him.
When Mothership arrived at the scene, a long queue snaked around the gathering area, with Ng at the centre of the meet-and-greet.
One woman shared that she had travelled all the way from Pasir Ris to Clementi to give the presidential hopeful some croissants.
She said the trip was worth it.
"I gave him croissants because his name is Kok Song," she explained.
She added that Ng's fiancée Sybil Lau also gave him croissants for breakfast, so the pastry had "a lot of meaning in it".
She walked away with Ng's campaign pamphlets, signed by Lau and the man himself.
Focusing on social media not enough: Ng
When asked what are his plans for the next two days, Ng said he would continue to walk the ground.
The candidate had previously mentioned that he would rely primarily on social media to extend the reach of his campaign, especially to young voters.
"Although my campaign has been focused mainly on the use of social media, that is not good enough," Ng stated, going on to say that he now saw a need for "personal interaction".
Before the cooling-off period kicks in on Aug. 31, Ng affirmed that he was going to do "as much as [he] can".
