A restaurant in Guangzhou, China had apparently reinvented an all-time Singapore favourite, Hainanese chicken rice -- by transforming it into a sushi dish.
Chicken on rice
The creative dish was consumed by a diner, who subsequently uploaded photos of the chicken on rice to Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu.
According to the photos and caption, each plate of Hainanese chicken rice sushi comes in a set of three.
A slice of poached chicken resembling sashimi was placed on a slab of rice cooked in chicken grease, instead of vinegared rice.
Similarly, rather than wasabi, a tiny scoop of ginger scallion sauce was served on top of the chicken.
In response to curious commenters, the Xiaohongshu user revealed that the restaurant behind the creative dish was Yu Yue Xiao Guan (誉约小馆), a restaurant chain that specialises in Southeast Asian cuisine, including Hainanese chicken and bak kut teh.
The set of sushi, which was only launched recently, is priced at 19.90 yuan (S$3.70) per plate.
