At the end of 2022, my mother retired from her full-time job as an educator in a Junior College.
Her career spanned over four lengthy decades, and after much grit, passion and hard work, came to a fruitful and fulfilling end.
To celebrate her newly minted status as a ~lady of leisure~, I decided to bring her to a “Moments With Mum, Powered By Braun” event for influencers and their mothers that Braun was hosting one Saturday afternoon.
Besides taking this chance to treat my mum to an afternoon of high tea and photo taking, I had also wanted to sneak a peek at the #influencerlyfe and share my takeaways with the public.
The event
The two-hour PR event Braun hosted was held at Frieda German restaurant in Capitol Kempinski Hotel.
The event was meant for us to spend quality time with our mums and create memories together through activities such as a preserved flower arrangement workshop, Braun IPL demo, instant photo booth and high tea.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by several Braun staff who ticked my name and organisation (Mothership) off a name list of many other attendees.
If I had to describe the experience, it felt like being a VIP at a club with a highly exclusive name list.
As this was my first time attending a PR event for influencers, I was pretty excited to see all that was in store for us.
A quick scan of the restaurant revealed several stations that had been set up at different sections - a photo booth area, an area showcasing the Braun IPL devices, an area for a preserved floral arrangement workshop and an area for food.
From providing food and activities to freebies, I was impressed at the extent to which Braun had planned this event, NGL.
I mean, I could definitely see why many young people regard being an influencer as a dream career.
After getting our food, my mum and I made our way to a corner where we sat down to eat and people watch.

Observing the room with eagle eyes, what struck me was how friendly many of the influencers were to each other.
While I was too shy to mingle with them and kept to myself instead, hindsight tells me that I should’ve taken the chance to socialise and make friends.
After all, you never know what a good connection can lead to.
Once we were done gorging ourselves on the high tea delights Frieda German Restaurant had prepared, my mum and I proceeded to take some photos at the photo booth, before getting them framed and calligraphed by a professional calligrapher.

It was even more thrilling to know that we had managed to score one of the only two peach pink frames available (or maybe I’m just easily excited).
A later segment of the event featured a Braun spokesperson giving a brief demo on how to use the Braun IPL devices, after which we were free to do our own thing.
During the demonstration, most of the influencers were pretty attentive in listening to the spokesperson and seemed like they were at this event with genuine interest.
And in an era where being an influencer may entail portraying a curated image on social media that makes some question the reality behind it, it was refreshing getting to see these women as real people just gathering together to chill and hang out.
All in all, the event was a pretty wholesome affair, with a focus on providing a good time for the influencers who were invited down and a space for mother-daughter bonding.
Of course, getting to enjoy free food and perks in the capacity of a pseudo “influencer” with my mum also made this experience all the more enjoyable.
