2 men, 50 & 70, arrested after 2 separate cases of snatch theft in Yishun on April 14

Two separate cases of snatch theft occurred in Yishun in one day on April 14, 2023.

The police made public two separate news releases of the crimes.

Gold bracelet snatched

In the first case, the police arrested a 50-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of snatch theft.

On April 14, the police were alerted to the incident along Yishun Central 1, where an elderly female victim’s gold bracelet was allegedly snatched away by an unknown man.

Officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on April 15 with the aid of images from police cameras and through ground enquiries.

The gold bracelet was recovered and seized as case exhibit.

The man was charged on April 17 with the offence of snatch theft.

The offence carries a jail term of not less than one year and not more than seven years, and caning.

Gold chain snatched

In the second case, the police arrested a 70-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of snatch theft.

On April 14 at 7:05pm, the police were alerted to a case of snatch theft along Yishun Avenue 2, where a victim’s gold chain was allegedly snatched by an unknown man.

Officers from Public Transport Security Command and Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within eight hours of the report via ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras.

The gold chain was recovered and seized as case exhibit.

The man will be charged on April 18 with an offence of snatch theft.

The offence carries a jail term of not less than one year and not more than seven years, and caning.

In both cases, the police said they will not tolerate such brazen acts of crime and will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law.
