Tekka Centre will be closed from Jul. 3, 2023 for repairs and redecoration works.
According to information posted on the National Environment Agency website, the refurbishment of Tekka Centre will last a total of three months.
Reopening will occur in two parts.
The second level, which comprises retail shops, will reopen on Aug. 31.
The first level, which houses food stalls and a wet market, will reopen later on Sep. 30.
A notice from Tanjong Pagar Town Council informing stall holders of the closure was shared on Facebook.
In the notice, the town council wrote that the repair works will involve repainting, replacement of tables and chairs, and refurbishment of toilets.
Tabla! reported that some stall owners and employees were anxious over concerns of income loss during the closure period.
The town council said affected merchants can approach NEA for alternative stalls, rent another stall on their own, look at taking their business online or take a break for the period.
The stall owners' service and conservancy charges and rent will be waived for three or two months accordingly.
Tekka Centre had previously closed for a year of renovations in 2008
It is Singapore's largest indoor wet market made up of 284 market stalls and 119 food stalls.
Besides being popular among the local crowd, Tekka Centre had also attracted big names in the past.
