An Indonesian man was arrested around midnight on Mar. 23 for trying to enter Singapore illegally.
His choice of transport? On foot, through Tuas Checkpoint.
ICA officers worried he could become a traffic safety hazard
Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore posted on their Facebook page that Tuas Checkpoint officers spotted the man walking along Tuas Second Link towards Singapore.
They promptly intercepted him, worried he could become a traffic safety hazard.
However, when the officers wanted to run a check on him, they realised he didn't have any identity or travel documents.
They then arrested him for attempting to enter Singapore illegally.
Entering S'pore illegally can get you 6 months' jail
ICA highlighted that it takes a serious view on attempts to enter or depart Singapore illegally.
Under the Immigration Act 1959, the penalties for illegal entry are fine of up to S$1,000, or a jail term of up to six months, or both.
"As Guardians of Our Borders, ICA is committed to facilitating trade & safe travels while keeping Singapore's borders safe & secure," ICA emphasised.
