Motorcyclist, 20, sent to hospital unconscious after colliding with U-turning taxi in Jurong

The rider reportedly sustained serious injuries and is currently in critical condition.

A 20-year-old motorcyclist was sent to hospital unconscious after an accident at Jurong West Avenue 1 on Thursday (Apr. 6) morning.

The police was alerted about the accident involving a taxi and a motorcycle along Jurong West Avenue 1 towards Jurong East Avenue 1 at about 5:15am.

According to Shin Min Daily News (Shin Min), the man had been heading straight before colliding with a taxi making a U-turn.

The rider is understood to be a national serviceman with the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

Following the accident, the 35-year-old taxi driver was arrested by the police for careless driving causing grievous hurt.

The accident

Shin Min reported that the collision took place near the exit of the parking lot of Block 425.

A 68-year-old taxi driver, who was resting nearby in his vehicle, told Shin Min that he heard a loud noise, so he rushed out to check what had happened.

"I saw a motorcyclist, who was bleeding from his nostrils, lying on the ground. He had sustained grievous injuries to his ankles and feet, such that the bones were visible," he added.

A resident told the reporter that in the aftermath of the accident, she saw the rider's bags of delivery orders and other items strewn across the ground, along with wreckage from the taxi.

After the accident, police cordoned off the area for investigation.

35-year-old taxi driver arrested

The police confirmed with Mothership that the motorcyclist was conveyed unconscious to the hospital, and the taxi driver was arrested for careless driving causing grievous hurt.

Sources told Shin Min that the rider's family members arrived at the scene later, but subsequently rushed off to the hospital where the rider was brought.

Shin Min also reported that the rider had sustained serious injuries and is currently in critical condition.

ComfortDelGro's group chief corporate affairs officer, Tammy Tan, said that the taxi operator has been alerted to this incident and are trying to get in touch with the motorcyclist to render assistance. She added that they will also assist in police investigations as needed.

Police investigations are ongoing.
