16-year-old Iryan Fandi, the youngest son of Singapore's football legend Fandi Ahmad, has made his senior professional debut in the Singapore Premier League (SPL).
On Sunday (Apr. 16) night, Iryan came in as a substitute for his team Hougang United as they went against the unbeaten Tampines Rovers.
Iryan, who plays as a defender, replaced Jordan Vestering in the 76th minute, with his team already in the lead by one goal.
Conceded a penalty in stoppage time
An extra six minutes of stoppage time was given in the second half of the game.
It seemed like Hougang was guaranteed a win as Tampines failed to find an equaliser.
However, the match carried on even after the extra six minutes were up.
In the 98th minute of the game, Iryan managed to block a goal from Tampines, having positioned himself at the right spot.
But in his attempt to clear the ball, Iryan fouled Tampines forward Faris Ramli in the penalty box.
After a video assistant referee (VAR) check, the referee awarded Tampines the penalty and gave Iryan a yellow card.
Boris Kopitović took the penalty for his team and scored the equaliser in the 15th minute of added time.
Here are the full highlights from the game:
Despite the dramatic last moments in the match, the Fandi family showed their love and support for the youngest one.
Iryan's three older brothers— Ilhan, Ikhsan and Irfan— posted an Instagram story each to express their pride in their little brother.
Wendy Jacobs also dedicated some posts for her youngest child.
Iryan is the only left-footed player in the Fandi family.
With his debut, all four of Fandi's sons have played professionally in the SPL.
