The rental costs of the stalls at the Bazaar Raya Geylang Serai 2023 are "within the market rental rate", according to the event organisers.
A press release by co-organisers — En Niche, TLK Events and Lighting, and S-Lite Event Support — announced on Jan. 26, 2023 that the base rental for the stalls (both retail and F&B) ranges between S$2,000 to S$19,000.
Stall holders have also been informed of the additional costs incurred from utilities including additional power points, water supply, fans, tables and chairs.
This year's bazaar runs for 36 days, which is longer than past years' bazaars.
Due to the longer duration, the monthly rental for F&B stalls ranges from S$14,000 to S$25,000.
The rental is inclusive of the premium cost paid by the stallholders who want to sell Ramly burgers or kebabs in the respective zones.
"Exclusivity" cost for some F&B stalls
The press release mentioned that there is an "exclusivity" cost for stalls selling kebabs and Ramly burgers.
Here's a breakdown of the total costs for these stalls:
The organisers reasoned that if there are too many food stalls selling the same products in the same zone, it may lead to price wars that could be "highly detrimental" for stallholders.
Thus, there is a limit on the number of stalls that are allowed to sell Ramly burgers and kebabs in the bazaar.
"The stalls will also one spread out and away from one another in the food zone area. However, there could be more than one stall selling Ramly burgers and kebabs within a specified zone," the press release said.
Retail stalls rent from S$2,000
Rental for retail stalls, on the other hand, ranges from S$2,000 to S$12,000. This breaks down to at least S$55 a day.
The organisers have ensured that the rental is "affordable" compared to other trade fairs.
"With rental at S$2,000 or S$55 per day, it is beneficial for home-based businesses and an opportunity for those who would like to be exposed in (sic) business and have a footing in selling in the bazaar," it said.
Some booths are also given free of charge to community partners like NKF, 4PM and Jamiyah.
