Two lanes at the viaduct leading into Woodlands Checkpoint will be demarcated with continuous double white lines, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) announced on Apr. 4.
Traffic violation to use motorcycle lane
ICA has collaborated with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to address the issue of drivers using the motorcycle lane to cut the queue of cars waiting to enter Woodlands Checkpoint.
“Such inconsiderate acts add on to the congestion at the checkpoint and consequently increase travel time for travellers,” said ICA.
This means that it would be a traffic violation for cars to cross these lines and use the motorcycle lane to jump the queue.
Enforcement cameras have been installed along the viaduct to identify cars that have violated traffic rules.
Violators will face a composition fine of S$150 and four demerit points.
Earlier on Apr. 2, ICA announced a lane closure on the viaduct from Apr. 3 to Apr. 5 between 9:30am and 4:30pm to carry out road marking works.
During the closure, cars can still access the viaduct via the motorcycle lane or through Woodlands Crossing, using exit 10B of the BKE.
Heavy traffic is expected in the lead-up to the Good Friday long weekend.
ICA reminds motorists to follow traffic rules, maintain lane discipline and comply with checkpoint officers’ instructions for smoother immigration clearance.
