A 49-year-old man was found lying motionless inside a stall at Bukit Merah View Market and Hawker Centre on Apr. 15.

In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Police Force confirmed they were alerted to a case of unnatural death at 6:33am.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedic.

Based on preliminary investigations, the police do not suspect foul play.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Employer & friend tried to wake him up

Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, a fish stall owner, surnamed Lim, said that she saw the man lying inside a stall selling frozen and chilled food products when she came to the hawker centre to open her stall for business at 3am.

At around 6am, the owner of the frozen and chilled food products stall arrived and shook the man, who worked as a stall assistant, a few times.

However, there was no response from him, recounted the 70-year-old.

Later on, a friend of the man arrived and performed CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) on him, but there was still no response.

In the end, the police arrived at the scene and confirmed the man's passing before retrieving his body.

Deeply saddened by his passing: Lim

According to Lim, she has known the deceased for five years, and she was deeply saddened by his sudden passing.

"He's a very good man. He would greet me when he saw me and would ask if I wanted kopi," the 70-year-old explained.

She also told Shin Min that she initially thought the man was sleeping when she saw him lying inside the stall, as he would sometimes come in early to open the stall for business.
