A man in Malaysia perished while trying to save his son from drowning.

Son was in car that plunged into river

Lasibi Lawadihu, 40, was fishing at a river in Putatan in Sabah, Malaysia at about 5:30pm on Mar. 26, The Star reported.

He was with his son, Mushab Umair Lasibi, five, who remained inside a blue Perodua Myvi that was parked nearby with the engine running.

The Myvi suddenly rolled and plunged into the river and Lasibi jumped after the vehicle to save his son.

Disappeared after rescuing son

Lasibi reportedly managed to get his son out of the car.

A man who was also fishing in the vicinity got hold of Mushab, before Lasibi went under and disappeared, The Star reported.

Mushab was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment on Sunday evening.

Authorities alerted

The authorities were alerted to the incident and launched a search and rescue operation to find Lasibi on the same day.

Body was found on Mar. 27

Lasibi's body was spotted 300m away from the incident site by a police drone and was retrieved at 9:15am the next day on Mar. 27.

His body was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem.
