The regulatory and enforcement division of Malaysia's home ministry seized nearly 22,929 sex toys in Penang.
Somebody had to count them all
According to Utusan, the Bahagian Penguatkuasaan dan Kawalan (PKK), or enforcement division of the Malaysian home ministry made the bust of RM1.1 Million (S$330,145) worth of sex toys.
The toys were sized from a warehouse on the mainland part of Penang state, near Butterworth, on Feb. 15; and were being stored there while being sold online.
A 29 year old woman was charged with harming morals, and distributing and selling obscene items on Mar. 2 and fined RM5,000 (S$1,500).
Nik Yusaimi Yussof, PKK division secretary, said that the suspect, who was also the owner of the warehouse, had begun actively selling the items online since 2022. They include sex dolls and other sex toys banned in Malaysia.
The sex toys were imported from abroad and sold between RM70 (S$21) and RM450 (S$135).
It was estimated that the sales value of the items would be worth up to RM3.3 million (S$990,435) "following high demand from customers".
Decline in moral values
This was the second such seizure made in Malaysia in the past four months.
Bernama reported that over 1,000 sex toys were seized in Sepang, Selangor, on Dec. 19 2022.
In that incident, a man was charged with distributing and selling obscene items.
Nik Yusaimi, who was also heading up the December bust, said that the toys were believed to have been made in China and Thailand.
The seizures were made as part of a concerted effort to combat the proliferation of sex toys in Malaysia, through an effort referred to as Ops Maya.
The division secretary said:
"The ministry is worried that the use of sex toys would affect the morality of Malaysians, and if uncontrolled, would lead to a decline in moral values and other social problems."
