By the second half of 2023, the Kallang Alive precinct will boast the newly completed Football Hub and Tennis Centre, as development of the area continues.

The Kallang Alive project, first announced in 2019, is an 89-hectare site along the Kallang River and Kallang Basin and will see the expansion of sporting facilities around the Sports Hub.

An update on the project was given during the Committee of Supply debates by Minister for Culture, Community, and Youth Edwin Tong on Mar. 6.

"With these developments, we will move towards using the whole of the Kallang Alive Precinct to offer a greater array of international sporting events, alongside local programming."

The new Kallang Football Hub will have four sheltered pitches and three outdoor pitches for 11-a-side football and futsal, while the Kallang Tennis Centre will have seven indoor courts and 12 outdoor courts.

The two facilities will serve as national training centres for their respective sports.

Tong added that Sports Hub — officially taken over by Sport Singapore on Dec. 9, 2022 — will play host to several community and sporting events in 2023.

This includes World Table Tennis Singapore Smash, FIBA Intercontinental Cup, and HSBC Rugby 7s.

Tong said that a combination of facilities in the Kallang Alive precinct would allow Singapore to "confidently bring in a marquee sporting event " such as an ATP1000 tennis event.

Meanwhile, other areas around Singapore will also see new sporting facilities.

Residents in Jurong can look forward to the ActiveSG Sport Village @Jurong Town, which is slated to open in the first half of 2023.

It will consist of:

  • A full-sized hockey field
  • Four sheltered courts for futsal and indoor hockey
  • Two outdoor tennis courts
  • Four outdoor pickleball courts
  • Three football fields
  • A jogging path
  • Outdoor fitness areas

Additionally, Sport-in-Precinct facilities are expected to open in Nee Soon Central, Woodlands, and Gek Poh in the second half of 2023, while Delta and Choa Chu Kang Sport Centres will reopen in the first half of 2023 having undergone rejuvenation works.

"Easy access to sporting facilities will help us adopt sports as our way of life, and we have been pursuing this through the Sports Facilities Master Plan," said Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Culture, Community, and Youth Eric Chua.

"The master plan is a multi-year effort to refresh infrastructure, increase residents’ accessibility to sports facilities and encourage social mixing."

He added that the new and renovated facilities would cater to seniors and persons with disabilities.

"We are on track to make all 27 gyms inclusive by 2026," he noted.
