Regaining title

This year, Qatar's Hamad International Airport in Doha came in second while Japan's Haneda International Airport came in third place.

Changi Airport lost its first place as World’s Best Airport in 2021 after passenger numbers fell. It was the first time it had lost the top spot after clinching it for eight consecutive years.

It ranked third place behind Qatar's Hamad International Airport in Doha and Japan's Haneda International Airport in 2021 and 2022.

Nevertheless, passenger traffic rose in the second quarter of 2022 due to the post-pandemic reopening.

Multiple awards

According to Skytrax, Changi Airport is “one of the busiest passenger hubs for Southeast Asia, and is renowned for its unrivalled passenger experiences”.

Besides being named the number one airport in the world, the airport also won the World’s Best Airport Dining and World’s Best Airport Leisure Amenities awards.

Strong post-covid recovery

Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax noted that Changi Airport’s passenger numbers are now “at about 80 per cent of pre-Covid-19 levels, and expected to return to pre-pandemic levels by 2024”.

He also remarked that the award was a “very clear recognition of the team effort amongst all staff at the airport who contribute to Changi Airport’s success”.

In a statement, Changi Airport Group’s CEO Lee Seow Hiang said:

“This recognition is great encouragement to our airport community, who stood firmly together to battle the challenges of Covid-19 over the past two years. We thank them for their dedication to serve Changi’s passengers and the perseverance to keep Singapore connected to the world.”

He also thanked passengers for their “vote of confidence” and promised to keep “pursuing service excellence” to enhance the Changi Experience.

The World Airport Awards from Skytrax have been regarded as a quality benchmark for the global airport industry, and the results were determined by the votes of customers and passengers via a survey.
