An additional ferry service will be launched between Singapore and Nirup Island, an upcoming island development in Indonesia eight nautical miles from Sentosa.

Previously, only a two-part, 1.5-hour ferry service transiting through Batam was announced.

This is despite the developers advertising that the destination was located "just 15 minutes away from Singapore ONE15 Marina Sentosa Cove, with 10 ferry trips daily".

A ONE15 Marina spokesperson later clarified that the 15 minutes advertised was only for private and chartered yachts departing from Sentosa Cove, not ferries.

New direct service

According to SUTL, the owner of the ONE15 brand, the new ferry service will carry visitors directly between HarbourFront and Nirup Island.

The journey will take 20 to 25 minutes each way.

However, visitors still have the option of taking the two-part ferry service if they wish to stop by Batam before heading for Nirup Island.

The services will commence once the island opens and the hotel is operational, SUTL said.

Moving parts

In response to Mothership's queries, an SUTL spokesperson noted that there are currently a lot of moving parts to the project.

The spokesperson explained that due to Covid-19, the project was delayed and some plans were changed, including the opening date of the marina and the hotel operator.

However, since the borders reopened, work on the project is progressing at a much faster rate, leading to a steady stream of updates and changes.

The spokesperson did not clarify at what point the new ferry service had been confirmed.
