A seven-year-old boy sustained multiple injuries after he was allegedly hit by his school mini bus and was dragged almost 4m to 5m.
According to Lianhe Zaobao, the boy is suspected to have been hit as he was crossing the road in front of the mini bus.
In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed that they were alerted to an accident near Block 386 Bukit Batok West Avenue 5 on Mar. 27, at around 2pm.
The police shared that the accident involved a mini bus and a pedestrian.
A seven-year-old boy was subsequently conveyed conscious to the hospital.
The police added that the 57-year-old male mini bus driver is assisting with investigations, and that police investigations are ongoing.
According to SCDF, the boy was conveyed to National University Hospital.
What happened
According to Zaobao, an eyewitness who was resting at the void deck of the HDB block shared that the boy went under the school mini bus after being hit.
The eyewitness immediately alerted the bus driver, who stopped the mini bus after hearing the man's shouts.
However, at that point, the boy had already been dragged for a couple of metres.
When the bus driver and the driver's assistant pulled the boy out from the rear of the bus, his head and face were covered in blood and he was unconscious.
According to Zaobao, the boy's grandmother was buying food at the coffee shop located opposite the covered driveway, and was waiting along the side of the road to pick up her grandkids after school.
Having unexpectedly seen the mini bus driver pulling her grandson out from under the bus, she burst into tears, and was in a state of shock.
After some time, the boy apparently regained consciousness, and began crying as well.
The ambulance arrived at the scene not long after, and paramedics proceeded to treat the boy's injuries.
He was then sent to the hospital for further treatment.
Possible bone fracture, body covered in abrasions
The boy's father told Zaobao reporters that the boy's body was covered in scrapes and bruises, and that his facial region may have sustained some bone fractures.
He declined to comment further, saying he was still feeling emotional about the incident.
The boy is suspected to have wanted to cross the zebra crossing in front of the school mini bus after having alighted, as he wanted to find his grandma across the road.
However, as the boy is small in stature, he could have been in a blind spot.
The boy and his family apparently live nearby, and the boy attends a school in the area.
