Gurkha in S'pore smashes 2.4km run, clocks 6mins 46 sec during his IPPT

Subas Gurung was one of the three people who clocked a sub-7 run during the Pocari Sweat Run 2021.

Subas Gurung, considered to be one of the fastest Gurkhas in Singapore, has set a new personal best for his 2.4km run during his Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT).

In a TikTok video posted on Jan. 16, Gurung can be seen crossing the finish line.

The current national record holder for the 2.4km run is Jeevanesh Soundararajah, who clocked a time of 6 minutes and 50 seconds at the Pocari 2.4km Run in August 2022.

Gurung's pace would see him clocking in at about 1 minute and 7 seconds for each 400-metre lap.

His latest 2.4 km run is all the more remarkable as it was done after completing 60 push-ups and 60 sit-ups as part of his IPPT.

Gurung's TikTok page is filled with posts of him clocking in new timings and setting new records.

On Dec. 19, 2022, Gurung posted a video of him clocking a 10 km track record of 31 minutes and 30 seconds. That is an average speed of 3 minutes and 9 seconds per kilometre.

Gurkhas are often described as the world's "toughest soldiers", known for their insane fitness levels and combat skills.

Their motto: "Better to die than be a coward."

Born and raised in Nepal, Gurung has been part of the Gurkha Contingent for about seven years.

As of Feb. 12, the TikTok video of him breaking the record has garnered over 255,600 views with 14,500 likes.

Some netizens in the comments pointed out that Gurung completed his whole run in the time some would take to run only a few laps around the track.
