Singapore and Malaysia are working towards the full resumption of air and land travel for vaccinated persons, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said on Mar. 23.

Will rebuild people-to-people connections

Ong met Malaysian Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin during a three-day official working visit to Kuala Lumpur on Mar. 23.

In a Facebook post, Ong said he and Khairy had a "fruitful and frank discussion"."We agreed that Singapore and Malaysia enjoy excellent and longstanding bilateral relations, our peoples have many linkages and ties, but they were all disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic," said Ong.

"We also agreed that the Covid-19 situation has stabilised and is improving in both countries, and we should now work towards the full resumption of air and land travel for vaccinated persons."

The move will rebuild people-to-people connections that were disrupted by Covid-19, he added.

VTLs between Singapore and Malaysia

The two countries are currently linked by air and land vaccinated travel lanes (VTLs).

Designated flights service routes between Changi Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Penang.

Travellers can also book bus tickets on Transtar or Causeway Link. The number of visitors each day is limited.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) previously said details on easing land crossings between Singapore and Malaysia are being worked out and more details will be shared when they are ready, according to CNA.

Malaysia will be reopening its international borders on Apr. 1.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be addressing the nation to give an update on Singapore's Covid-19 situation at 11am on Mar. 24.
