There were 10 reports of sexual misconduct involving National University of Singapore (NUS) students from Jan. to Jun. this year.
The NUS report published on Aug. 5 titled "Update on Complaints of Sexual Misconduct" detailed a summary of complaints regarding NUS students and staff.
According to the report, the school is seeing more individuals come forward to file reports against alleged student perpetrators.
Complaints involving students
There were 10 complaints of sexual misconduct involving students.
The type of offences include sexual assault, indecent exposure and verbal or physical contact of a sexual nature. Seven of the cases took place on campus, with more than one allegation of non-consensual intercourse.
Two students were also expelled with immediate effect.
An incident reported on Feb. 10 involved a student allegedly having non-consensual sexual intercourse with the complainant in a hostel.
Another incident reported on March 26 involved a student allegedly touching the first complainant inappropriately without consent. The student was also alleged to have filmed a nude video of the second complainant without consent.
In both instances, the accused students are appealing against the Board of Discipline's decision for expulsion.
Complaints involving staff
The report noted a drop in the number of sexual misconduct incidents involving staff (one complaint compared to four in the same period last year).
Two students had reported that they were sexually harassed by a research staff who allegedly made inappropriate sexual remarks at work and sent inappropriate videos to the students.
One of the students also reported that the staff had also made inappropriate physical contact without consent.
The staff's employment was subsequently terminated.
Update on previous cases
The report also provided an update on nine previous cases of sexual misconduct, which were reported before Jan. 1 this year.
In two cases, the student's candidature was terminated with immediate effect for voyeurism.
One of the students was alleged to have filmed sexual acts with more than one student without consent, , the report stated.
On Dec. 2, NUS received a complaint alleging that two NUS staff had sexual relations with a former student as inducement for better grades.
Investigations concluded on Feb. 3, and NUS said that no further action was taken against one of the staff members as the allegations were not substantiated. As the second staff member is no longer a NUS staff, no investigations were conducted.
