A subdued affair
A ceremonial parade will be held at the Marina Bay floating platform to commemorate National Day on Aug. 9.
Compared to past parades, however, the number of participants forming the physical parade has been reduced by 70 per cent, according to Mindef.
Some 600 participants, consisting men and women from the Singapore Armed Forces and Home Team, will partake in the physical parade onsite.
Meanwhile, another 200 participants, consisting nine uniformed youth groups and 12 social and economic organisations, will participate virtually.
Mindef said this is the first time that participants will be joining the parade virtually.
This is in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, and to ensure that the National Day parade is held safely, and in accordance to safe management measures.
Marina Bay area closed to public
In addition, areas surrounding Marina Bay will be closed to the public from midnight till 2:30pm on Aug. 9.
Some roads will also be closed off during the National Day's ceremonial parade, and members of the public in the vicinity are encouraged to take public transport.
Those heading out are reminded avoid crowded places, and to practise safe distancing.
