A 91-year-old woman discovered that her domestic helper was stealing money after marking her bank notes with a pen, Shin Min Daily News reported.

According to her 68-year-old son, the helper, who was from Indonesia, had been working for the elderly woman for seven months and had supposedly been stealing money since three months ago.

As such, the helper has been sent back to her home country.

Helper allegedly had a bad attitude

The woman's son further alleged that the helper had a poor attitude, and often shortchanged his mother when asked to go shopping.

In addition, items in the house would often be used up quickly as the helper did not buy sufficient portions as directed by the woman, her son added.

In highlighting that his mother is still strong with an able mind, she eventually became suspicious of her helper's actions.

Marked four S$10 notes

This led to the elderly woman marking four S$10 notes from one to four with a pen, after discussion with her children.

She then placed her bag in a specific location before heading out.

Afterwards, the woman discovered that her bag had moved and called on the helper to show the money in her possession, which included one of the marked notes.

Initially, the helper insisted that she was innocent and that she had been unable to return the note in time, which she had picked up while cleaning.

However, the helper eventually admitted to stealing the money. She also admitted to stealing money in other instances.

The woman's son added that the family decided to let the helper buy a ticket to return to Indonesia, instead of calling the police.
