Kim Raisner, Germany's modern pentathlon coach, was disqualified and will not be part of the men's individual competition after hitting a horse with her fist.
According to Reuters, Kim also urged rider Annika Schleu to "really hit" the horse when it refused to jump.
A pentathlon consists of five events, and Schleu was heading into the third event with a good lead.
The third event, show jumping, would however see her drop all the way down to 31st in a field of 36.
The horse Schleu was riding, Saint Boy, was seen bucking during warmups, and was refusing jumps soon after according to Reuters.
According to Insider, pentathletes do not "bring their own horses to the jumping section but are instead randomly assigned one of 18 horses".
The Guardian reported that Raisner was deemed by the International Modern Pentathlon Union to have struck the horse "with her fist" and that her actions were deemed in violation of the rules.
Raisner was also heard telling Schleu to whip the horse harder.
