Singaporean singer JJ Lin has given his own rendition of this year's National Day Parade (NDP) song "The Road Ahead" to wish the nation a happy birthday on Aug. 9.
Presented an acoustic medley of NDP songs
In a video posted on his Instagram page, the Taiwan-based Mandopop singer presented a medley of NDP songs, starting off with the 1998 classic "Home" by Kit Chan.
Accompany his singing on a guitar, Lin then weaved in the chorus of NDP song "Our Singapore", which he performed in 2015, before picking up the tempo with the song "The Road Ahead".
Composed by singer-songwriter Linying and music producer Evan Low, the song has sparked thousands of TikTok dance challenges, where TikTok users danced almost frenetically to the chorus.
Performing the acoustic medley with Lin was local music producer and singer-songwriter Ang Junyang.
Lin, who is currently in Singapore, wished his home country a "Happy 56th Birthday" and added that he is glad to be home to celebrate with family and friends.
He included a nod to the new NDP song as well, saying that "the road ahead can seem confusing, but we remain steadfast and stand strong."
In an IG post a week ago, Lin revealed that he received his first dose of Covid-19 vaccine right after his Stay-Home Notice ended.
Past performances
This is not the first time that Lin has wished Singapore a happy birthday through his singing.
He appeared on IG Live with fellow local Mandopop singer Stefanie Sun in 2019, where they performed an impromptu duet of the song "We Will Get There".
The pair collaborated again the following year, releasing the English version of "Stay With Me" to encourage frontline workers in this pandemic.
