A community cat in Singapore ended up sleeping on the cold, hard ground this rainy season after she had her cosy cardboard box with warm blanket inside thrown away.

Before and after photos of the incident were put up on Facebook on Aug. 24, 2021, after the woman who provided the cat in the box with a blanket was outraged by their removal.

Box initially left under shelter

The community cat, Gracie, was provided with a spacious cardboard box by another man, the woman revealed.

She said she then took the box and brought it under the sheltered area at the void deck as it was raining.

The blanket was provided by her.

Photos showed the tabby cat wrapped up in the blanket while in the box.

The cat lover wrote: "She was so happy in her box and residents were petting her joyfully."

"But suddenly, her box was missing and I found her curling up beside the lift. Someone threw away her beautiful box with warm blanket leaving Gracie with no box," she added.

The cat was seen in another photo curled up on the ground at what appeared to be the lift landing.

The woman implored by the end of her post: "Stop removing boxes for our community cats."

Responses

Some of the comments on the post recommended leaving a note to inform the estate cleaner to spare the box by not discarding it.

Others suggested bringing the box to another location with lesser human traffic to get out of the way of residents so as to minimise the chances of eliciting complaints.

Cardboard boxes for community cats

Cardboard boxes left out in the open for community cats to be sheltered from the rain was a trend in early 2021, during the rainy season then.

Some of the cardboard boxes were even decorated with elaborate designs.

The trend was observed after a woman in Hougang towel dried a community cat caught in a heavy rain and provided a box for the animal to occupy.
