The Ministry of Education (MOE) released the academic calendar for the year 2022 for primary and secondary schools, Junior Colleges (JC) and Millenia Institute (MI).
For primary and secondary schools, the school year will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022, and ends on Friday, Nov. 18.
However, MOE added that the last day of the final school term for schools which will be used as venues for the GCE O-Level written examinations will be on Friday, Oct. 28.
Junior College and Millenia Institute
First year students of JC and MI will begin their school term on Feb. 7 and ends on Nov. 25.
Second year MI students, will begin their term earlier, on Jan. 10 and end the same date as first year JC and MI students.
Second year JC students and third year MI students will also begin their school term on Jan. 10 but end on the last paper of their GCE A-Levels examination.
School holidays
In the press release, primary and secondary school students will be having their vacations from Mar. 12 to 20, May 28 to Jun. 26, Sep. 3 to Sep. 11 and Nov. 19 to Dec. 31.
For JC and MI students, their school vacations will be from Mar. 12 to Mar. 20, May 28 to Jun. 26, Sep. 3 to Sep. 11 and Nov. 26 to Dec. 31, except for final year students who will end their school term on the last day of their examinations.
Public and school holidays
There are 10 public holidays scheduled in 2022:
- New Year’s Day, Saturday, Jan. 1, (the following Monday, Jan. 3, will be a school holiday),
- Chinese New Year, Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 1 and 2,
- Good Friday, Friday, Apr. 15,
- Labour Day, Sunday, May 1 (the following Tuesday, May 3, will be a public holiday),
- Hari Raya Puasa, Monday, May 2,
- Vesak Day, Sunday, May 15 (the following Monday, May 16, will be a public holiday),
- Hari Raya Haji, Saturday, Jul. 9 (the following Monday, Jul. 11, will be a school holiday),
- National Day, Tuesday, Aug. 9,
- Deepavali, Monday, Oct. 24,
- Christmas Day, Sunday, Dec. 25 (the following Monday, Dec. 26, will be a public holiday).
- Youth Day, Sunday, Jul. 3 (the following Monday, Jul. 4, will be a school holiday),
- Day after National Day, Wednesday, Aug. 10,
- Teachers' Day, Friday, Sep. 2,
- Children’s Day (for primary schools and primary sections of full schools only), Friday, Oct. 7.
