A family of about 16 wild boars captured the attention of a passer-by on a walk at Windsor Nature Park on July 16.
At around 6pm in the evening, Mothership contributor Mark Stoop encountered an adult wild boar who kept looking his way.
When he was about to move off, he noticed three other piglets moving towards the adult wild boar, and then another adult, and then even more little piglets.
Stoop decided to follow the family, but at a safe distance so as not to anger the adult boars.
He then spotted them again about 20 metres from the boardwalk, and captured them all on video.
The piggies
The video showed one of the adult wild boars rooting through dead leaves and roots on the ground.
It was then joined by the other adult.
Later, a piglet appeared, and all three proceeded to move off.
Soon after, 11 piglets dashed past, in the same direction of the adult wild boars.
What to do when you encounter a wild pig
According to an advisory by ACRES, here's what you can do if you come face-to-face with a pig or boar in the wild or an urban area:
- Be calm and move slowly away from the animal.
- Do not approach or attempt to feed the animal.
- Keep a safe distance and do not corner or provoke the animal (i.e. use flash photography).
If you see adults with young piglets, do not go close to them.
They might easily feel threatened because as they feel a need to attempt to defend their young.
