After a year's delay, the Tokyo Olympics are now officially underway after the games were officially declared open on July 23.
In light of the pandemic, the Parade of Nations saw countries and their contingents marching into a largely empty 68,000 seater stadium.
However, video game fans watching remotely worldwide were buzzing with excitement.
Countries marched to songs in video games
It turns out that songs from well-loved video games were being played out during the parade.
A full list of the video game theme songs used during the opening ceremony was reported by sports news website Nikkan Sports.
The website reported that these were theme songs from games such as Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Sonic the Hedgehog, Tales of Zestiria, Monster Hunter, Nier and Chrono Trigger.
These games were developed by popular Japanese game companies, including Square Enix, Capcom and Sega.
Singapore marches in to song from Kingdom Hearts
Singapore's contingent, led by badminton player Loh Kean Yew and table tennis player Yu Mengyu, marched to the tune of "Olympus Coliseum", from Kingdom Hearts.
You can see the Singapore contingent from the 1:31:00 mark.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, not all athletes are present during the scaled-down ceremony, including that of Singapore.
23 athletes will compete in 12 sports at the Tokyo Games, including in diving, equestrian and fencing for the first time, The Straits Times reported.
