Taiwan clinched its first gold medal during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the women's 59kg weightlifting event.
Dubbed the "goddess of weightlifting", 27-year-old Kuo Hsing-Chun also broke three Olympic records with her performance on Tuesday (July 27) in the snatch with 103kg, the clean and jerk of 133kg, as well as with her total 236kg, according to Taipei Times.
However, she fell short of breaking her own record of 140kg as she failed to lift 141kg.

She told reporters that she was competing against herself and wanted to break her own record, but she was glad that she added a gold medal for Taiwan.
"I was competing against myself, and I wanted to break the world record," Kuo said, as reported by Reuters.
"I am very happy that I put all the pieces together now, adding in the Olympic gold medal today," she added.
Taiwan cheered for the medal
Her Olympic win sent a wave of congratulatory messages across the island.
The Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs took to Twitter and referred to Kuo as an "inspiration to all", adding that they "couldn't be more proud of [their] athletes at the Olympics".
