Chee Soon Juan, leader of the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP), recently treated some cleaning staff of Rochester Mall to a meal at his new cafe, Orange & Teal.
Recently, someone else also stepped up to offer free meals as a way of "paying it forward."
Help both F&B outlets and workers
On July 27, Chee shared a Facebook post recounting the good deed.
A "kind Singaporean" named Ning contacted the cafe and paid S$150 for meals. She asked them to distribute the food to the cleaning staff. Chee added:
"She explained that this would help F&B outlets at this time while also providing a nice lunch for our low-wage workers. Thanks, Ning, it's people like you that keeps us going and makes our struggle worthwhile."
This is not the first time that staff have dined at Orange & Teal, with Chee giving them a treat just before opening day on June 25.
However, due to recent Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) measures, Chee recently announced that Orange & Teal will offer takeaway orders as dining-in is forbidden.
Chee also confirmed that they will not lay off any of the staff despite the latest restrictions.
