Malaysia reported a new record number of Covid-19 infections on July 13.
The total of 11,079 was the first time that new Covid-19 cases had reached five figures, according to the Malay Mail.
Selangor accounted for almost half, at 5,263 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 1,521 cases.
Record-setter
According to CNA, this was the third new record in number of cases set in less than a week.
Malaysia recorded over 9,100 cases on both July 9 and 10. The total number of cases as of July 13 is 855,949.
The high numbers were reported even as Malaysians remain under a third nation-wide Movement Control Order (MCO), which started on June 1.
The MCO was recently extended until mid-July.
At the time, current Deputy Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that Phase 1 of this MCO would be maintained until three key indicators were met.
These are:
- Number of daily Covid-19 cases drop to below 4,000.
- The rate of beds used in Intensive Care Units at a "moderate" level.
- 10 per cent of the population received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.
