Four men, aged 28 to 46, were charged in court today (July 28) for offences of possession of obscene films and transmission of obscene materials through a Telegram group.
According to court documents seen by Mothership, the four accused are 46-year-old Malaysian Yee Wing Kay, 28-year-old Singaporean Wong Ming Jun, 40-year-old Singaporean Tan Yeow Chong and 30-year-old Singaporean Lincoln Anthony Fernandez.
Yee received 10 charges, Wong received 11, Tan received seven and Fernandez was handed six.
Telegram group contained leaked sexual videos & images
The police said that the Telegram group, "Sam's lots of CB Collection", contained leaked sexual videos and images of women, and these included nude photos, photos of women dressed scantily or in compromising positions.
Videos of sexual act were also circulated on the platform without consent.
"Members of the public are advised not to join illegal chat groups circulating obscene materials, and to report them to the police," they added.
Arrests made in Nov. 2019
The police had received a report against the Telegram group on Oct. 24, 2019. Four men were arrested in Nov. that year, and investigations revealed that three of the men are the administrators of the chat group. The fourth man had advertised the sale of obscene materials.
The police said that electronic devices were seized from the four men following their arrest. any obscene materials, including thousands of video files and pictures, were uncovered from forensic examination.
Upon the conclusion of investigations, the police consulted the Attorney-General’s Chamber, which concurred in mid-July 2021, to charge all four men with multiple charges of possession of obscene films and transmission of obscene materials.
If found guilty, the offence of possession of obscene films is punishable with a fine of up to S$20,000 or imprisonment of up to six months, or both.
The offence of transmission of obscene materials is punishable with imprisonment of up to three months, or a fine, or both.
