The office of Malaysia's Prime Minister, Muhyiddin Yassin, issued an order to the country's civil servants to use his official name, Mahiaddin Bin Md Yasin, on all formal documents, The Star reported.
The directive, which was dated on June 3, came after a two-year detention order for a man involved in drug trafficking was revoked by the Shah Alam High Court in April on the grounds that Mahiaddin did not use his real name to sign the order, according to Free Malaysia Today (FMT).
Public and media can still address him as Muhyiddin
APNews reported that the ruling has since raised questions about the legality of other documents he might have previously signed, using his unofficial name spelling.
The directive added that the public and media can still address the Prime Minister as Muhiyiddin however.
An aide was quoted by FMT as stating, "The memo does not change anything. To the media and public it is still Muhyiddin. There is no change on that score whatsoever."
