Ex-commando James Eu has been bringing his children out to parks, reservoirs and anywhere close to nature since they were as young as two and three.
His daughter is now five, and his son is six.
Children put on camo & army singlets to explore nature
On June 23, Eu posted on the Facebook group Singapore Hikers photos of his children with the caption, "Water parade session and standby for hiking + ready for inspection SIR ! 💚"
Photographed in the Mandai area, his children are seen decked in army attire and sporting real camo on their faces while carrying miniature versions of army equipment and tools.

"The kids love nature and outdoor activities very much," Eu told Mothership. "We explore all the parks in Singapore almost every weekend, from the east to the west."
"If you really spend time exploring every part of Singapore properly, (you will find that) Singapore is not so small after all," he added.

Outdoor activities include junior commando course
With the current travel restrictions, Eu planned themed outdoor activities and trips to nearby islands so that the "school holidays can be more meaningful and well spent in Singapore".
Because of their shorter attention spans, Eu had the idea to engage the children with fun and interesting activities while giving them an opportunity to dress up at the same time.

Eu shared that he has created simple outdoor courses such as the "Junior Jungle Confidence Course" and the "Junior Commando Level 1 Course" to create a unique experience in nature for his children.
After completing each course, the siblings will receive a badge.
"They both love it very much since these types of outdoor army experiences are something that they don't learn in school," remarked Eu.
"That's also our great bonding session," he added.
Eu evidently enjoyed his army days enough to draw inspiration from them, to create bonding activities for his children.
"Although (I'm) no longer in the army, I still remember and enjoy all the tough and fun times I used to have in my army days," he said.
