Another day, another viral recipe.
The "cloud cake" requires three core ingredients:
- Whites from three eggs
- One teaspoon of white vinegar (to get rid of the eggy smell)
- 20g of refined sugar
Sounds a lot like meringue, but the result comes out quite different.
How to
Combine everything into a bowl, and whip it into firm and airy foam.
To check that it's the right consistency, insert a toothpick into the mixture. The toothpick should be able to stand.
Shape it into a dome -- after removing the toothpick -- and add any toppings you want. The recipe suggests almond flakes.
Bake it at 160°c for 20 minutes.
Dust it with icing sugar (or not, it's up to you).
The result should look like this:
You can watch the process here.
But not really
One Kellie Xiu Lian shared her successful attempt at the recipe:
Others, however, met with less luck.
In response to the above result, another baker said that she faced the same problem, but did not know what had caused it.
A third user said that hers collapsed as well.
There are a couple of factors that could have affected the outcome:
1. The amount of whisking to get the egg whites aerated just right, which requires some trial and error if you're an inexperienced baker.
2. Too low a temperature, which leads to excess liquid and the foam collapsing.
