Singapore will be tightening border measures for travellers from Guangdong province of China, following a recent spike in the number of Covid-19 cases there.
A seven-day Stay-Home Notice (SHN) will be implemented for travellers from there, starting June 5, 2021, 11:59pm (effectively June 6 onwards).
Previously, travellers from mainland China who test negative for their Covid-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test upon arrival were allowed to go about their activities in Singapore, without needing to serve a SHN.
Seven-day SHN for Singaporeans, PRs, and Long-Term Pass holders
According to a press release by the Multi-Ministry Taskforce on June 4, Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents (PRs), and Long-Term Pass holders entering Singapore with travel history to Guangdong province within the last 21 days before departure for Singapore, will be subject to a Covid-19 PCR test upon arrival.
They will also have to complete a seven-day SHN at their place of residence, and a Covid-19 PCR test before the end of the SHN period.
In addition, short-term travellers holding an Air Travel Pass (ATP) with travel history to Guangdong province, mainland China within the last 21 days before departure for Singapore, will not be allowed to enter Singapore.
All other travellers departing from mainland China, who have been in mainland China (excluding Guangdong province) in the last 21 days prior to travel, will continue to be subject to a Covid-19 test upon arrival at the airport, in lieu of their SHN.
According to the Ministry of Health, border measures will continue to be adjusted as the global situation evolves, and any changes to border measures will be updated on the SafeTravel website.
Covid-19 cases in Guangdong
On June 2, Reuters reported that cities in Guangdong have locked down compounds and streets and ordered some travellers to show negative Covid-19 test results, as health officials noted a rise in cases.
According to Reuters:
"All 10 of China's locally confirmed mainland cases on June 1 were in southern Guangdong, the National Health Commission said on Wednesday, seven in the provincial capital of Guangzhou and three in the nearby city of Foshan.
...
Mainland China reported 24 new coronavirus cases on June 1, up from 23 a day earlier, and 19 new asymptomatic cases, up from 15 a day before. China does not classify symptomless infections as confirmed cases.
The tech hub of Shenzhen, also in Guangdong, saw two new local asymptomatic infections on Tuesday, taking to 15 the city's tally of asymptomatic cases since May 21."
