No-holds-barred review of McDonald's BTS Meal

The experience isn't really smooth like butter.

Attempting to order this meal today (June 21) felt a lot like camping to buy a pair of BTS concert tickets.

As the meal is only available for purchase online, I set a reminder on my phone at 10:55am, just five minutes shy from when the meal will be launched.

Emotional rollercoaster

By then, I've already opened a tab on the McDelivery website where I was directed to a virtual waiting room:

For a brief moment, I managed to get past this page and excitedly added the BTS Meal to the cart before I got stuck on the sign-in page but went on to refresh the page as it didn't recognise my postal code.

This has never happened before, based on my numerous late-night McDonald's orders that I sometimes regret.

As of the time of writing (read: 11:29am), I am still in the virtual waiting room.

But not to worry, because the meal is also available via GrabFood and foodpanda.

However, those options aren't any easier.

Just when I was about to check out the meal on GrabFood at 11am sharp, I received the following message:

And when I tried to order from foodpanda at 11:02am, I was told that the restaurant was "closed":

*panic intensifies*

Thankfully, after a couple more attempts on the food delivery apps, we got a winner.

And my meal arrived promptly at 11:15am.

While the process from ordering to delivery took less than 20 minutes, the rush to get the meal felt like it shaved a few years off my life.

The review

Now that we've got the delivery sorted, let's go on to the review.

Here's what it looks like:

Here are some observations:

1) The drink is huge

It has a wider girth compared to the normal McDonald's cups that we're used to.

Here it is, next to a Yakult bottle for reference.

2) It doesn't come in the BTS-themed brown bag

Here's the BTS-themed brown bag available in Malaysia:

And here's the brown bag I received:

In a Facebook post, McDonald's clarified that the BTS brown bag is not available in Singapore.

Taste test

The meal consists of nine McNuggets and two dipping sauces: Cajun and sweet chilli.

McNuggets

Tastes good, like chicken McNuggets.

Doesn't taste as good as Spicy McNuggets, though (RIP).

Rating: 4/5

Sweet chilli

A while ago, sweet chilli sauce sachets were a staple in McDonald's outlets in Singapore before it was phased out entirely.

Let's just say that I understand why it is phased out, and not the OG garlic chilli sauce.

It's not bad, just not memorable.

Rating: 3/5

Looks like honey mustard.

Smells like honey mustard.

Tastes like honey mustard.

Personally, not a fan of honey mustard.

Rating: 2/5

Overall, a subpar meal but a riveting experience.

Is this what it feels like to be a K-pop fan?
