A man was seen asking fellow MRT train commuters for cash, prompting one commuter to take to social media to warn others that this has been happening multiple times.
A Facebook post was put up on the de facto feedback channel Complaint Singapore on June 11 by Jeffrey Keng after witnessing for himself what happened.
The post was even titled "Scammer Alert".
According to Keng, the man has allegedly been going from end to end on the train, asking members of the public for money to buy food.
Keng also overheard the man request for S$4, instead of spare change or a smaller amount of money.
According to Keng, he had stopped a fellow male commuter from giving the man cash, but was too late in stopping another "young girl" from doing so.
After receiving cash from the girl, the man apparently continued his mission in the next cabin.
Preferred to buy the man food
Following the post, several users have commented that they would prefer to buy the man food, rather than part with their cash by giving it away in such a situation.
Others have apparently encountered the same man on public transport.
There were also those who adopted a more sympathetic approach, and felt that parting with a few dollars would be worth it, if the money could potentially go to helping someone in need.
This is not the first time such a case has been reported.
In 2020, a worker was thought to have repeatedly asked commuters for help with transportation fees, and reactions were similarly split.
Another middle-aged man has also been recorded doing the same late last year, frequently asking for S$4 to take the MRT train.
