A 37-year-old man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in a series of cat abuse cases in Ang Mo Kio.
Ang Mo Kio suspected cat abuser arrested
According to the Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS), a cluster of the National Parks Board (NParks), an operation was conducted on the morning of June 8, with support from the Singapore Police Force.
The man is believed to have been involved in a series of cat slashing cases since April 2021.
At least 10 community cats have been slashed in the past month, with some being injured more than once.
The cat-loving community came together to conduct regular patrols to help protect the remaining cats, and send those injured to the veterinarian for treatment. They also appealed to the public for more information to help with the investigation.
The 37-year-old man will be charged in court on June 9 for the offence of animal cruelty under Section 42 of the Animals & Birds Act, NParks' statement added.
The Group Director of Community Animal Management at NParks, Jessica Kwok, urges members of the public to report any suspected cases of animal cruelty to AVS via their website at www.avs.gov.sg/feedback or call their Animal Response Centre at 1800-476-1600.
"Safeguarding animal welfare is a shared social responsibility," Kwok said. Information shared with AVS will be kept strictly confidential.
