5 men arrested for allegedly entering S'pore by swimming to Tuas

Previously, a man caught swimming into Singapore had tested positive for Covid-19.

Five men were arrested for allegedly trying to swim their way into Singapore.

According to the Singapore Police Force, the men — aged between 21 and 38 — were caught in the early hours of Jun. 24.

The alleged unlawful entry was attempted via Tuas at 4:45am.

A video released by police showed the five men approaching the shore and making their way into the forested area at Lube Park Jetty, nearby a chemical plant.

Following the detection, officers from Police Coast Guard, Jurong Police Division, Gurkha Contingent and Special Operations Command were immediately deployed and arrested the five men.

They have since been referred to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority for further investigations.

Firm action

Commander Police Coast Guard, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Cheang Keng Keong, added in a press release that police would continue to take firm action against such offenders.

Previously, on Jun. 17, the Ministry of Health announced that an Indonesian man who entered Singapore's waters without valid documentation and was tested positive for Covid-19.

CNA reported that he was among five men who were arrested for unlawful entry after they were detected swimming in the waters off Changi on Jun 14.

Under the Immigration Act, the offence of unlawful entry into Singapore carries an imprisonment term of up to six months and caning of not less than three strokes.
