A carrot cake hawker at Beo Crescent market in Tiong Bahru has offered to share her stall with a ban mian vendor after she allegedly lost her own hawker stall.

According to a post by Facebook user Kee Vern Cheng in the Facebook group Hawkers United - Dabao 2020, the hawker and owner of Ah Mei Handmade Noodle, Hor Boon Choo, is currently sharing the space with Heng Heng Carrot Cake, her next-door neighbour at the hawker centre.

Badly affected by Covid-19 situation

In an earlier post put up in June 2020, Kee said that Hor had been badly affected by the ongoing Covid-19 situation and had considered closing her stall at one point.

Hor then lost her stall sometime "last week" although the exact reasons were not given in Kee's post.

The stall appears to have since been replaced by Chef Wang Fried Rice, according to a netizen's photo in the comments' section of the June post.

Wakes up at 1am daily to open store by 5.30am

As for food preparation, Kee highlighted in her previous post that Hor wakes up at 1am every day to boil the soup for her handmade noodles.

Requiring several hours of boiling, Hor's soup is made from pork bones, anchovies, dried sole fish and other ingredients in her "secret recipe". She also adds marinated minced meat, eggs and vegetables to enhance its flavour.

Hor starts selling handmade noodles at 5.30am. Prices for all of Ah Mei Handmade Noodle's dishes are fixed at S$3.50, with a S$1 charge for more minced meat.

Orders can be placed by phone

In the meantime, orders for Hor's handmade noodles can be placed by phone. Hor is not equipped to cater to delivery orders.

Here are the steps to place an order at the stall, according to Kee:

  1.  Call 8896 8779 between 9am to 12 noon.
  2. Place your order: Soup/dry, type of noodle.
  3. Set your self-collection time.
  4. Hor will give you a collection number.
  5. Upon arrival at the stall, tell Hor your number to collect your order. Payments are accepted only in cash.
