Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong put up a Facebook post on May 7, cheering on healthcare workers from Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), amid the hospital's efforts to contain what is currently the biggest active Covid-19 cluster in the country.
PM Lee's message
In his Facebook post, PM Lee mentioned that everyone has been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and this includes frontline workers to say the least.
Responding to reports of discrimination against TTSH staff, PM Lee said that while the fear of the public is understandable, the situation can only improve if Singaporeans work together, as evidenced from the past year.
PM Lee urged the public to remain united and warned that division within society would mean that the "virus has won".
He also said that he was glad to see members of the public and businesses supporting TTSH staff and encouraged the hospital to not "lose heart".
He encouraged the public to send words of encouragement to the patients and staff in TTSH "to cheer them up and urge them on".
Public reactions
In the recent days, there has been an outpouring of support and encouragement, both online and offline, for the staff and patients in TTSH.

Establishments like Stuff'd have also shown their support and appreciation for frontline workers at TTSH by giving them a free meal.

On May 4, Kenneth Mak, director of medical services at the Ministry of Health (MOH) urged the public to rally behind TTSH healthcare workers.
"So we endeavour also to support them, making sure they have support and accommodation through this difficult time when they are being called up to do much more than what they'd normally be expected to."
TTSH is also taking in messages of encouragement for patients who are currently in the hospital.
Those with loved ones who are warded in TTSH can surprise them with messages and photos by dropping the hospital a private Facebook message. The hospital will print the messages and nurses will deliver them to the patients.
TTSH cluster
As of May 6, 2021, the TTSH cluster has 40 Covid-19 cases. Previously, it was reported that five of these cases had been found with the B.1.617.2 India variant.
On May 4, TTSH ceased hospital admissions as a preventive measure to contain the virus.
