On May 24, a family of otters reportedly ate close to 100 fishes, including huge koi fish, at the Church of St Teresa along Kampung Bahru Road.

These otters could be the Zouk family that has been wandering around in Singapore as they are unable to secure a territory of their own.

Leaving a fish trail behind

In a video clip posted by Shin Min Daily News, over a dozen fishes can be seen scattered around, some left with their tails or heads bitten off.

Nearing the end of the video, the group of otters can be seen climbing out of the pond and running away from the cameraman who moved towards them.

They eventually escaped the compound through the church's main gate.

A 71-year-old retiree told Shin Min that the otters first visited in the wee hours on Monday (May 24). They devoured about 40 fishes from the smaller pond in the church that day. In the subsequent visits, they went for the bigger pond and ate up over 50 fishes from that pond.

Some of the koi fish were raised by church staff and gardeners for over 15 years, according to Shin Min.

There are over 10 large koi fish remaining in the bigger pond after the incident.
